エッセイの中身って何を書くの？

「Introductionも書き終わった。よしじゃあ内容を考えなくちゃ！」

Thesis statementをより強力なものにするためには

『Thesis statementで主張した内容を、Bodyで証明する』

結局のところこれが出来なければ良いエッセイは書けません。

そこで、今回はエッセイのBodyの基本的な書き方を解説します！

エッセイのBodyはTopic sentenceで！

各Bodyパラグラフの一文目は、基本的にはTopic Sentenceで始まります！

これはエッセイの構造にも似ていますが、テンプレートではこうなっています。

[Topic sentence]ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー. [Support Sentence]ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー. ここでそのTopic Sentenceについて少し解説すると、

Bodyとは、Thesis statementであなたが提示した主張をより詳しく、説得力を持たせるためのものです。

そしてTopic Sentenceは、Body内で筆者が言いたい事（主題）を含むもの。

つまり

各BodyのTopic Sentenceは、Thesis statementに関連している文章である必要がある。

のです。この考えが抜けているとエッセイ全体がちぐはぐしてしまうので、覚えておきましょう。

では次のBodyの内容を見ていきましょう！

Support sentenceとExampleで補強する！

Topic Sentenceを書いたら、その内容と言える部分を書かなければなりません。

それがsupport sentenceと呼ばれるもので、言葉そのままにTopic Sentenceの主張をサポートする為に書く文章です。

その次にはsupport sentenceで書かれた内容に具体例を加えて更にわかりやすくするためのExampleと続いていくようになっていきます。

ここで、例を見てみましょう。

Courtesy is no less an important Japanese character than Japanese nonverbal communicative skills. Japanese people think courtesy is one of the best way to show their respect and gratitude to others. As Japan originally have a culture called “Omotenashi,” which means “to think others are more important than himself”, they naturally take an action to help other people. Also, the Japanese say “Otsukaresama” when they want to say “Thank you for your work.” At the same time, they show their respect for other’s work by using the word, and it is used at a time when a challenging situation like a natural disaster happens. Strangely, the expressions are native to Japan and other countries do not have the exactly same words. Because the unique Japanese two meaning of the words are used only in Japan, the words represent their polite character and the courtesy of Japan. Treating others politely every time is a key idea for the Japanese, so the type of courtesy leads to the Japanese spirit of “Wa.”

このパラグラフはエッセイのBodyのうちの一つを抜き出したものです。

しっかりとテンプレ通りTopic sentence → support sentence → Example

と配置されているので、読む方も読みやすい構成になっています。

そして、Topic sentenceをパラフレーズした文章をおきます。※

上記の例を取って見てみると

Courtesy is no less an important Japanese character than Japanese nonverbal communicative skills.

Treating others politely every time is a key idea for the Japanese, so the type of courtesy leads to the Japanese spirit of “Wa.”

礼儀正しくある事が日本人に取って大事である。という趣旨がどちらからも感じられるものになっています。

具体的に言うとCourtesy＝Treating others politelyという言い換えがまた違った雰囲気を作っています。

このように少しずつ変化を加えて元の主張を言い直す事で、より強い説得力を持たせる文章になります！

因みに、この元のエッセイのThesisは「日本の和の心について」（the Japanese spirit of “Wa.”）なので、しっかりBodyの主題とThesisの主題が結びついているのがわかりますね。

このそれぞれのパラグラフの繋がりまで意識してエッセイを構成する事が非常に大切です。
